Department of Agriculture/Foreign Agricultural Service

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) works to improve foreign market access for U.S. products, improve the competitive position of U.S. agriculture in the global marketplace, and provide food aid and technical assistance to foreign countries.

FAS Dhaka facilitates contacts between Bangladeshi importers and American exporters of high quality American food grains, oilseeds, pulses, dairy products, feed meals, raw cotton, fresh fruits, raisins, and processed and semi-processed agricultural products.  FAS Dhaka also carries out collaborative activities to promote food security and poverty alleviation, agricultural research, and trade capacity-building.

Services Include:

  • U.S. Suppliers List: An updated list of U.S. suppliers of agricultural products.  Commodity-specific lists are available upon request.
  • Foreign Buyers List: A list of Bangladeshi importers for interested American exporters.  A company can have its name included in this database free of cost upon request.
  • Market Information: Reporting on Bangladeshi production, consumption, trade, and policy regarding grain and feed, oilseeds and oilseed products, cotton and cotton products, and trade.
  • FAS Publications: Timely and reliable information on U.S. and worldwide production, supply, demand, and trade of an array of commodities.
  • Training and Visits: FAS sponsors trade missions for Bangladeshi buyers and facilitates their attendance at major trade shows.  It also sponsors training and visits for public and private sector officials on issues related to Bangladesh’s agricultural trade.
  • Cooperators: FAS supports several American non-profit farm groups called “Cooperators,” which provide trade servicing and technical assistance to potential importers and investors to build up industries that will generate demand for US agricultural commodities.
