A tradition of employee giving

Sandia National Laboratories employees and retirees are generous, contributing more than $4 million/year through the United Way of Central New Mexico to non-profits in New Mexico, California, and the nation. Giving is a tradition at Sandia. In the 1960s, employees initiated the Shoes for Kids Program. Rather than giving each other gifts during the holidays, employees elected to contribute to a fund to provide new shoes to local elementary school children. The program has provided a new pair of shoes to over 500 Albuquerque-area children for over 50 years. Other annual programs benefiting local students include book and school supply drives.

During the holidays, New Mexico employees enjoy the opportunity to provide gifts for over 450 children who are living in foster care. California employees celebrate with the Holiday Spirit Campaign to distribute food to local food banks and provide gifts to nearly 500 needy families.

A unique giving program at Sandia is our on-site, weekly blood drives. These convenient drives facilitate the donation of over 900 units of blood/year.

Lockheed Martin – a partner in giving

Lockheed Martin became the operating contractor of Sandia National Laboratories in 1993 and has contributed more than $22 million to nonprofit organizations benefiting our communities in Albuquerque and Carlsbad, NM, and Livermore, CA. Lockheed Martin is committed to a program of philanthropy that supports the Corporation's strategic business goals and invests more than $1 million each year in the quality of life of the communities where employees work and live. Contributions include sponsorship of regional science fairs, math competitions, science/math teacher professional development, cultural programs, museums displays, and support for employee volunteerism.
