Hensarling Statement on Death of Moammar Gadhafi

October 20, 2011

WASHINGTON – House Republican Conference Chairman Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) issued the following statement today regarding the death of former Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi.

“Moammar Gadhafi ruled Libya with an iron fist for 42 years while overseeing one of the most vehemently anti-American regimes in the world. Only by waging war against his own people was he able to cling to power. His demise is good news for the people of Libya and good news for the United States. Looking back, Americans will never forget the citizens we lost on Pan Am Flight 103 to the bombing that Gadhafi commanded. With today’s news, the families of the victims have finally been given a measure of justice they’ve so long deserved. Looking forward, we must encourage the National Transitional Council to lead the Libyan people to a peaceful future free from the tyranny they’ve known for so long. Their victory sends a warning to tyrants everywhere, and a message of hope to those who risk everything to topple them.”
