African American Heritage Month committee
2/5/2013 - HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- The Ritchie Rich 24-Karat Funk Band will headline the local Col. Charles McGee Chapter of Tuskegee Airman Inc. Winter Showcase and Dance at the Minuteman Commons Feb. 15 from 8 p.m. to midnight, as part of the 2013 African American Heritage Month activities.
The event will feature comedians, poets and soloists from Hanscom and the Boston area. The show will also include a special appearance and performance by the New England Soul Line Dancers Network.
"This is the first time in my three and a half years at Hanscom that this type of event has been held during African American Heritage Month," said Dr. Quincy Mosby, event chairman. "It promises to be an awesome show, and I encourage everyone to come out, enjoy a great show and dance the night away."
Event organizers say attendees should feel free to dress to impress or wear casual attire; either is appropriate for the evening. The Commons will offer a limited a la carte menu for purchase during the show. Admission for the showcase and dance is $15 in advance for singles and $25 for couples. At the door, the cost is $20 for singles and $30 for couples.

Other African American Heritage Month activities
Feb. 12: The movie "Red Tails" will be shown at the base theater at 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend; however, donations will be accepted. Members of the local Tuskegee Airmen Inc. chapter will be in attendance at a membership booth.
Feb. 19: The movie "Glory" will be shown at the base theater at 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend, however, donations will be accepted. Members of the local Tuskegee Airmen Inc. chapter will be in attendance at a membership booth.
Feb. 21: The African American Heritage Month luncheon will takes place at 11 a.m. at the Minuteman Commons. Original Tuskegee Airman retired Col. Charles McGee will serve as the guest speaker.
Feb. 24: Gospel Fest will take place at the base chapel from 4 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is free and the event will feature a concert, choir performance and Soul Food Feast. |
