The Housing Management Office (HMO) provides all DoD personnel with personalized services to assist in locating suitable housing in the local community. Although moving is sometimes stressful, it can also be an exciting opportunity to live off base and experience a new location. The HMO will assist you every step of the way to help you find your new home in the local community.
Housing Services
Contact the HMO as soon as you know you are moving. The government housing team will provide you the latest information on the local housing situation and offer complete referral services and relocation assistance to make sure you find a quality place to live.
Support services range from helping members understand their lease agreements and the necessity for a military release clause to assisting in resident and landlord dispute resolution, among many others.
The HMO partners with landlords, realtors and property managers to make sure you receive the most current information about the local housing market. The HMO also monitors housing units offered for rent to the military community, which are listed in the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN), a joint service, DoD-sponsored website that offers a 24/7/365 single source of available housing to incoming military personnel and their families.
Go to AHRN.com and create a personal account to view the available housing and get a feel for the size, style and type of housing around your new installation. The listings provide contact information for the landlord or property manager so you can connect with them to discuss available units. Contact the HMO prior to making any firm commitments.
Rental Partnership Program
At McConnell, the HMO supports the Rental Partnership Program to help military members obtain adequate housing in the community. The HMO and local landlords enter into agreements to offer service members special rental benefits above what other tenants receive. Typical benefits might include a waiver of security and utility deposits, no credit checks or application fees, a discount on market rental rates and immediate access to housing. Contact the HMO for more information about this program.
Community Housing Units
Wichita Kansas and surrounding communities have a good assortment of apartments, condos/townhouses and single family homes. Utilities are not usually included the rent, but apartments typically cover trash and water (or complexes have a fixed amount added to the rent for water).

Personal Property Insurance
You need to obtain legal liability and personal property insurance for your possessions and should choose the options and amounts that best fit your needs and lifestyle. Before purchasing your insurance, please consult the HMO for more information about coverage.
School Information
For families, we understand that where your children attend school plays a large factor in the decision of where to live.
For your convenience, all community housing listings in the Automated Housing Referral Network site (AHRN.com) include a link to schools in the area surrounding the listed house.
The school district for Wichita, KS is USD 259, www.usd259.com. Wichita schools include traditional and magnet programs. Wichita has numerous elementary, middle and high schools.
The school district for McConnell AFB Family Housing is USD 260 Derby, www.derbyschools.com. Derby is a community just south of McConnell AFB, KS. Derby has several elementary, one sixth grade center, one middle school and one high school. The elementary school for McConnell Family Housing is Wineteer Elementary.
Other surrounding school districts include Andover - USD 385, Mulvane - USD 263, Haysville - USD 261, Maize - USD 266 and Goddard - USD 265.
