Housing in the Local Community
The Housing Management Office (HMO) provides all DoD personnel with personalized services to assist in locating suitable housing in the local community. Although moving is sometimes stressful, it can also be an exciting opportunity to live off base and experience a new location. The HMO will assist you every step of the way to help you find your new home in the local community.

Housing Services
Contact the HMO as soon as you know you are moving. The government housing team will provide you the latest information on the local housing situation and offer complete referral services and relocation assistance to make sure you find a quality place to live.

Support services range from helping members understand their lease agreements and the necessity for a military release clause to assisting in resident and landlord dispute resolution, among many others.

The HMO partners with landlords, realtors and property managers to make sure you receive the most current information about the local housing market. The HMO also monitors housing units offered for rent to the military community, which are listed in the Automated Housing Referral Network (AHRN), a joint service, DoD-sponsored website that offers a 24/7/365 single source of available housing to incoming military personnel and their families.

Go to AHRN.com and create a personal account to view the available housing and get a feel for the size, style and type of housing around your new installation. The listings provide contact information for the landlord or property manager so you can connect with them to discuss available units. Contact the HMO prior to making any firm commitments.

Community Housing Units
Off-Base housing is approximately 5 to 20 miles from our various gates. Rentals are offered on a month-to-month basis or require a lease from 3 to 12 months. As a rule, it is difficult to find a rental that allows pets and when found, requires additional deposits.

Typical apartment rents are one bedroom $700-900, two bedrooms $750-$1000. Furnished apartments are very scarce; while rental furniture is available, it is expensive. Rental rates for houses are usually higher than apartment rates. In addition, the security and cleaning deposits are $250 to $300 higher.

Generally, apartment rents do not include gas and electricity. The utilities start at $65 & up a month, if you obtain a letter of credit from a former utility company the deposit may be waived. There is a fee to install telephones, if you have a telephone account history that can be verified you may not have to pay a deposit for the telephone.

Homes for sale on our area are plentiful. Costs depend on areas; it is difficult to find a nice home for less than $175,000.

For information about the housing allowances that financially support your move, see Referral and Relocation Assistance.

Personal Property Insurance
You need to obtain legal liability and personal property insurance for your possessions and should choose the options and amounts that best fit your needs and lifestyle.

School Information
For families, we understand that where your children attend school plays a large factor in the decision of where to live.

For your convenience, all community housing listings in the Automated Housing Referral Network site (AHRN.com) include a link to schools in the area surrounding the listed house.
