What is GIS?
GIS (Geographic Information Systems) is a collection of computer hardware, software, and geographic data for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying geographically referenced information.
 

It takes numbers and words from the rows and columns in databases and spreadsheets and puts them on a map.

GIS Day is designed to create geographic awareness around the globe. It provides a forum for GIS users to showcase applications and share ideas to improve the technology and impact society.

Data was compiled to reveal a long track tornado through the terrain of northern Arkansas on 02/05/2008.
In the picture: Data was compiled to reveal a long track tornado through the terrain of northern Arkansas on 02/05/2008. The data was collected during ground surveys using mapping software. This portion of the 122 mile track went through the Clinton (Van Buren County) area.
 

The following files (containing tornado tracks) are for use with GIS software. The KMZ (compressed KML) files are intended for applications such as Google Earth. The ZIP files contain several shapefiles for applications such as ArcView. Right click on the link(s) of your choice and "Save Link As" or "Save Target As" to your computer. View using the appropriate application(s).
