JOHNSON WELCOMES BANKING SUBCOMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR 113TH CONGRESS

Johnson Welcomes Banking Subcommittee Chairs for 113th Congress
 
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee Chairman Tim Johnson (D-SD) announced the following chairmanships for the Committee’s subcommittees in the 113th Congress: 
  • Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) – Housing, Transportation, and Community Development
  • Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) – Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection
  • Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) – Securities, Insurance, and Investment
  • Senator Mark Warner (D-VA) – National Security and International Trade and Finance
  • Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) – Economic Policy
The full committee is expected to finalize the subcommittees with a vote in committee next week.  Chairman Johnson welcomed the incoming subcommittee chairmen in the following statement.
 
“I am looking forward to another productive Congress, building off the Banking Committee’s record of accomplishments in the 112th. Our subcommittee chairmen have my complete confidence and they will surely make significant contributions to sustaining and strengthening our economic recovery.
 
“Senator Menendez will continue to serve as chair of the Subcommittee on Housing, Transportation and Community Development, and I look forward to working with him as we seek to find innovative solutions to help the housing market recover.
 
“Senator Sherrod Brown will continue to serve as chair of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection, where he has done outstanding work promoting financial stability and looking out for the interests of American families and consumers.
 
“Senator Tester will assume a new role as chair of the Subcommittee on Securities, Insurance, and Investment, where I have no doubt he will do excellent work helping to ensure our financial markets are operating on a fair and level playing field.
 
“Senator Warner will continue to serve as chair of the Subcommittee on National Security and International Trade and Finance, and his wealth of experience from the private sector, Virginia State House and previous work on this Committee will serve him well at a time when the global economy is more important than ever before.”
 
"Senator Merkley will assume a new role as chair of the Subcommittee on Economic Policy, and I welcome his expertise and thoughtfulness as he works to address important issues impacting our economy as the nation continues to recover from the financial crisis.”
