About Advertising

Advertising is simply a way to attract public attention to something—usually to a product or a business, but in your case, to the important public service of child support services.

Advantages:

  • Advertising is a good way to reach many people at once.
Ads are visual; a strong photo can quickly capture attention, convey a compelling story, and stir emotions.
  • You control the message—your ad can say whatever you want it to say.
  • Ads are easy to target. You can place them where you know your audience will see them. You can also develop different ads for each audience, and place them in different places—for example, an ad for mothers in a women’s magazine and an ad for fathers in a men’s magazine.

Disadvantages:

  • Ads can be costly.
  • They may take longer to produce than other types of communications.
  • People may overlook your ad because they think you are trying to sell something, or because your ad gets lost among the clutter of other ads.
