Directions to NRL

From the Beltway (I-495 near the Woodrow Wilson Bridge):

Take I-295 North to "Washington." From Virginia, I-295 is the first exit after the Woodrow Wilson Bridge - Exit 2b. This exit divides, take the left fork to I-295. From Maryland, I-295 is the last exit before the Woodrow Wilson Bridge - Exit 2.

NRL is Exit 1, the first exit off of I-295 (approximately 2 miles).

Make a right at the traffic light in front of the main gate onto Overlook Avenue. Make an immediate left into the parking lot. The Visitor Control Center (Building 72) is located on the corner in the brick building next to the main gate. You will need to get a visitor pass before entering the main gate.

From Downtown and Points North:

Take I-295 South towards Bolling Air Force Base/Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

Pass Malcolm X (Bolling AFB main gate), take Exit 1 "US Naval Research Laboratory" (there is also a sign for "DC Village/Blue Plains/Academy").

Go through 2 traffic lights (past the Bolling AFB south gate and Bellevue Housing), turn right into the parking lot immediately before the next light (Sheppard Parkway). The Visitor Control Center (Building 72) is located on the corner in the brick building next to the main gate. You will need to get a visitor pass before entering the main gate.

Using Public Transportation:

From the Metro Center Metrorail Station in downtown Washington, DC, take the Red Line towards Silver Spring, one stop to the Gallery Place Chinatown Metro Station.

At the Gallery Place Chinatown Metro Station, transfer to the Green Line towards Branch Avenue. Take the Green Line to the Anacostia Metro Station.

Transfer to the A4 Metrobus to Overlook Avenue and Shepherd Pkwy.

Please note that during non-rush hours, this trip can take an hour. The A4 bus schedule (current as of 3/6/06) is included on this page for your convenience, however we suggest that you check the Washington Metro Area Transit Authority web page (http://www.wmata.com) to confirm that this schedule is correct for the date of your travel.
