Saving the life of an injured fisherman or a boater lost at sea is nothing new for the Coast Guard. But every once in a while the Coast Guard gets to save another kind of life – an animal's. That someone was actor Russell Crowe. Crowe & a friend were taken aboard the Coast Guard boat & transported safely to shore. Prior to Isaac’s landfall, units in the Gulf region moved response boats & aircraft out of Isaac’s path. This proved a life-saving move. Over the past two days, the Coast Guard has rescued 17 people & two dogs by helicopter. Churchill (DDG 81) & the embarked Coast Guard Advanced Interdiction Team rendered medical assistance to M/V Belde, approximately 110 miles north of Socotra Island, Yemen.
