NEW PROCEDURES

As of August 30, 2012, the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi has implemented new visa application procedures.  This new system is being implemented worldwide. The new process is easier, more convenient, and includes everything in one fee, making it less expensive than before. With only one payment (the current MRV fee based on the visa classification) the following services are now provided to all applicants:

  • MRV fee collection at any branch of the designated bank
  • Scheduling of visa appointments (through call center numbers or online appointment website)
  • Providing information on general visa inquiries
  • Passport pickup for approved visa applications
  • Document delivery for submission of pending documents after an interview for 221(g) applicants

The basic steps to apply for a visa:

Step 1 Obtain a visa photo.

Step 2 Complete the visa application online at http://ceac.state.gov/genniv/
Print the Confirmation Page when finished.

Step 3 Pay the fee.
Any nonimmigrant visa applicant can pay their visa application fee in cash at any Bank of Georgia branch. Before going to the bank, you must print and carry the applicable U.S. visa fee collection slip available on this web page. Take the completed fee collection slip and your passport to the bank when you pay your fee, which must be paid in cash. Be sure that you pay the exact amount indicated on the deposit slip. After receiving your payment, the bank will give you a receipt.  The bank will not accept the payment unless the applicant provides the web generated fee collection slip.  If an applicant incorrectly declares the visa class while applying for a visa and scheduling an appointment, it will result in an incorrect fee collection slip being generated.  Please note that if this happens the incorrectly paid fee will be forfeited and a new, correct fee will be required.  No refunds, except due to bank error, can be processed.

Step 4 Make an appointment for an interview

Online appointment website

Callers in Georgia: (995 32) 2471 160
Callers in the United States: 703-988-7103

When you schedule your appointment, please ensure you choose the correct category of resident or non-resident.  Your scheduled nonimmigrant visa interview will be  cancelled and you will not be allowed to enter the Embassy facility if you incorrectly identify at this step.

Resident: All holders of Georgian passports or Georgian permanent residency cards.

Non-resident: you do not have 1) a Georgian passport OR 2) a Georgian permanent residency card.

You will be required to reschedule your appointment and will not be granted expedited processing as a result of delays caused by not following these instructions.

After scheduling your appointment, please monitor the email you used to register.  Any updates, cancellations, correspondence or other information will be provided to that email address.

Step 5
Come to the Embassy for your interview on the appointed day. Verify that you are coming to your visa interview prepared and you have all the necessary additional documents that are required for the visa type you are applying for.

Step 6 Passports will be returned to you at the designated TNT office you selected at the time of scheduling your appointment.

Please be advised that all applicants are legally responsible for the accuracy of the information provided on the application, regardless of who completes the form on the applicant’s behalf.

American citizens and green card holder who want to provide information regarding an applicant are advised to give the applicant a letter to be presented to the consular officer during the visa interviews. It is important to understand, however, that it is the applicant alone who must establish eligibility for a visa. Consular officers may not issue visas based solely on the assurances of interested third parties abroad or in the United States.

Please do not purchase tickets until you have received your U.S. visa and your passport with visa has been returned to you.  Expedited appointment requests will not be granted due to tickets being purchased contrary to our guidance and before visa interviews or issuance.

Visa Eligibility

Under Section 214(b) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, applicants for non-immigrant visas are presumed to be intending immigrants. Visa applicants usually overcome this presumption by demonstrating they have a permanent residence abroad which they have no intention of abandoning. This is generally established by the documentation of family, social, employment, economic or other ties in their country that will compel them to return after a short and temporary stay in the U.S. Since visitors to the U.S. do not have the right to employment while there, an applicant's economic position in his/her country and his/her personal financial resources are additional factors in determining whether the applicant has the need or desire to work while in the U.S.
