Individual NPDES Permit and Hearing Notices

Notices of intent to issue an individual NPDES permit and notices of public hearing concerning the issuance or modification of individual NPDES permits can be found on the NPDES Permit and Hearing Notices page.

Section 401 Water Quality Certification Notices

Notices of receipt of an application for a Section 401 water quality certification to discharge into the waters of the state can be found on the Section 401 Water Quality Certification Notices page.

General NPDES Permit for Non-coal Mines

The general NPDES permit NPDES No. ILG84 for non-coal mines can cover operations that mine or process: construction sand and gravel, crushed stone or industrial sand. The mine owner or operator must submit a permit application or Notice of Intent (NOI) to the Illinois EPA prior to initiating mining activities to obtain coverage under the general NPDES permit.

After the Illinois EPA reviews the permit application or notice of intent and determines that the mining operation could be covered by the general NPDES permit, a notice will be posted on the Illinois EPA's website that the mining operation may be covered by the general NPDES permit for non-coal mines 30 days after the posting date.

The construction authorization document is also available for each facility posted after November 30, 2011.

General NPDES Permit for Public Water Supplies

General NPDES Permit No. ILG64 was issued for the discharge of wastewaters generated by existing public water supply facilities. In order for facilities to obtain coverage under the general permit, a discharger must submit a permit application.

The permit application will be reviewed by the Illinois EPA, and if the Agency determines that the facility may be covered by the general NPDES permit, a notification will be posted on the Illinois EPA’s website for a period of 14 days.

General NPDES Permit for Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations

General NPDES Permit No. ILA01 was issued for the discharge of wastewaters generated by existing concentrated animal feeding operations. In order for facilities to obtain coverage under the general permit, a discharger must submit a permit application. The permit application will be reviewed by the Illinois EPA, and if the Agency determines that the facility may be covered by the general NPDES permit, a notification will be posted on the Illinois EPA’s website for a period of 30 days.

General NPDES Permit for Pesticide Applications

Notices Of Intent (NOIs) submitted to the Agency are available after the NOI has been reviewed for completeness. After the NOI has been reviewed, an identifying ILG number is assigned to the permit application and a notification will be posted on the Illinois EPA’s website for a period of 14 days. 

General NPDES Permit for Domestic Lagoon Wastewater Facilities

General NPDES Permit Numbers ILG551, ILG580 and ILG582 were issued for the discharge of domestic wastewaters generated by existing lagoon wastewater facilities. In order for facilities to obtain coverage under a general permit, a discharger must submit a permit application.

The permit application will be reviewed by the Illinois EPA, and if the Agency determines that the facility may be covered by a general NPDES permit, a notification will be posted on the Illinois EPA’s website for a period of 14 days.
