JOB SUMMARY:

Our mission is to provide an exemplary education that inspires and prepares the children of our dedicated U.S. Military members for success in a dynamic, global environment.

Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a DoD Field Activity responsible for the oversight of two school systems, the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary & Secondary Schools (DDESS).  DoDEA employs more than 12,000 individuals responsible for educating approximately 90,000 students in 12 foreign countries, seven states, Guam, and Puerto Rico.  The mission of DoDEA is to provide a quality education from pre-kindergarten through grade twelve for the eligible minor family members of DoD military and civilian personnel on official assignments.

 

Who May Apply:  United States citizens residing in the Guam commuting area. 

 

A 13.84% non-taxable cost of living allowance (COLA) will be added to the salary.  COLA may be subject to change without notice.

SCHOOL INFORMATION ASSISTANT, GS-0303-06
In this position, you will input and maintain data in the student information management system. Provide a variety of school administrative functions such as student registration, student attendance, academic records maintenance, tuition status and other related processes. Independently receives and acquires various data and enters into the student information management database to include new student enrollment, discipline and attendance data, school and student scheduling information, report cards and transcript information and athletic eligibility for all students.

In order to qualify for the GS-06 you must possess:

   • Specialized experience:  To qualify applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level (GS-05).  Specialized experience is defined as applying extensive rules, procedures, operations, functions and commitments to secretarial and clerical assignments to perform the procedural and administrative work of the office, such as screening calls and visitors, maintaining supervisor’s calendar, preparing, reviewing and editing documents, locating and assembling information for various reports, maintaining files/records, and making and preparing travel arrangements; knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written correspondence and reports, and transcribed material. Resume must support information provided.

 

   • Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5; however, graduate education may be credited as long as the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.

Education Note: Successful completion of a full four-year course of study from an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in any field. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. A photocopy of all OFFICIAL college/university transcripts (front and back) must be submitted.  To receive the maximum allowable credit you must include all transcripts (front and back) for each degree earned to include any additional courses currently in progress.  Any transcripts submitted that are not in English or not official will be removed from the application and will not be considered. (Transcripts must be in English.)


   • Federal Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must meet the Time in Grade Restriction.

   • Time in Grade Restriction:  Must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the GS-5 level.

HOW YOU WILL BE EVALUATED:

Once your application is complete, the Human Resources Office will compare your resume and supporting documentation against your responses to the assessment questionnaire to determine if you are qualified for this position. The numeric rating you receive is based on your responses to the questionnaire. The score is a measure of the degree to which your background matches the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this position. If, after reviewing your resume and/or supporting documents, a determination is made that you have inflated your qualifications and/or experience, your score may be adjusted, including marking you ineligible for this position. Applicants will be placed in one of three categories: Best Qualified, Highly Qualified, or Qualified. Within these categories, military spouse preference and family member applicants with Veterans Preference will receive selection priority over military spouse preference and family member applicants who are non-veterans.

Locality Pay: Locality rates of pay in CONUS will not be used for pay setting when transferring to an overseas/foreign area.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. Incumbent may be required to complete a 1-year probationary or trial period.


Status candidates must meet time-in-grade requirements.
