Non-Immigrant Visas

The following provides visa information for travelers to the United States who wish to visit, work or study for a temporary period.  The type of visa required will depend on the purpose of your travel.  For information on the application process, please visit the How to Apply page.

We always recommend that individuals schedule appointments for visas well in advance of their proposed date of travel.  No assurances regarding the issuance of visas can be given in advance.  Therefore, final travel plans or the purchase of non-refundable ticket should not be made until a visa has been issued and you received your passport via DHL.

Who needs a visa?

All travelers who are not eligible to enter the United States without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) or Visa Free Travel, must apply for a non-immigrant visa.

How to Schedule an Interview Appointment

Fraud Warning: Visa Lottery

  • Peru does not currently qualify to participate in the Diversity Visa Program, commonly referred to as the Visa Lottery.

    Fraudulent websites are posing as official U.S. Government sites.  Some companies posing as the U.S. Government have sought money in order to "complete" DV entry forms.  There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form.  To learn more, see the Department of State Warning and the Federal Trade Commission Warning.

    The Department of State does not notify successful DV applicants by letter or email.  Entrants can check the status of their entries by visiting the DV Entrant Status Check website.

Rights and Protections

  • The William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2008 relates to the legal rights of employment-based non-immigrants (A-3, G-5, NATO-7, H, J, & B-1 domestic employees) under Federal immigration, labor, and employment laws. As a temporary visitor to the United States, it is important that you are aware of your rights, as well as the protections and resources available when you come to work or study there.
