Senior Commerce Trade Official Launches Automotive Trade Mission in Russia
U.S. Delegation Arrices in Moscow to Explore Opportunities for Exports
MOSCOW – Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Michelle O’Neill arrived in Moscow today with a delegation of 13 U.S. companies seeking opportunities to export goods and services in Russia’s growing automotive parts and components sector. This is the first stop on a trade mission that continues on to Samara and St. Petersburg, Russia.
“Our trade mission participants have the opportunity to explore Russia’s rapidly expanding car and truck assembly market and be introduced to a diverse cross-section of companies selling goods and services into the automotive sector,” O’Neill said. “Russian companies seeking U.S. business partners and suppliers appreciate American brand-name value and U.S. companies’ reputation for quality, performance, and after-sales service.”
In 2010, vehicles sales in Russia grew 30 percent, and are expected to continue at approximately 15 percent per year through 2015. U.S. auto components and parts manufacturers are well-positioned to help supply the growing Russian auto industry, which from 2008 to 2010, imported an annual average of $1.3 billion in U.S.-made components, parts, and finished motor vehicles.
The trade mission delegation will participate in one-on-one meetings with potential business partners, engage in discussions with key Russian Government officials, and visit automotive assembly plants and component manufacturers in Russia’s automotive industry centers.
O’Neill launched the mission by presenting Triton-Import, a Moscow-based automotive parts distributor, with the Commerce Department’s Certificate of Appreciation for Achievement in Trade. Triton-Import has helped U.S. companies export more than $50 million in automotive spare parts to the Russian market. “Triton-Import has been an important partner and friend to many U.S. small and medium-sized firms,” O’Neill said.
The trade mission advances President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting economic and job growth.
“This mission enables U.S. companies to meet with public and private sector officials to explore potential partnerships that will mutually benefit both our economies.” O’Neill said.###
