Obama Trade Official Launches Infrastructure Trade Mission in Jakarta
Under Secretary Sánchez, U.S. delegation to explore export opportunities in Indonesia, Vietnam
JAKARTA, INDONESIA – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez arrived in Jakarta today with a delegation of eight U.S. companies to launch a U.S. Department of Commerce-led infrastructure trade mission. The participating companies provide high-quality infrastructure development products and services.
“Indonesia presents promising opportunities for U.S. firms that offer products and services in a variety of infrastructure development and technology sectors. These companies are eager to meet with public and private sector representatives to discuss potential projects and partnerships that will be mutually beneficial to both our nations. Members of our delegation have the expertise, technologies, products, and services that are needed to meet the challenge of developing Indonesia’s infrastructures.”
Indonesia is a critical trading partner for the United States in Southeast Asia region. U.S. merchandise exports to Indonesia through August 2012 totaled $5.5 billion – an increase of nearly 10 percent from the same timeframe in 2011.
This trade mission, which continues to Vietnam with stops in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, advances President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting economic and job growth.
