Under Secretary for International Trade Francisco SÁnchez Brings Biotechnology Life Sciences Trade MIssion to Hong Kong
U.S. Delegation to Explore Export Opportunities in a Thriving Market
HONG KONG – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez arrived today in Hong Kong with a delegation of 19 U.S. biotechnology firms for the final stop in the U.S. Department of Commerce’s biotechnology life sciences trade mission. The delegation visited Beijing last week.
“The biotechnology sector is critical to the continued growth of technology, commerce, and healthcare in both the United States and Hong Kong and U.S. companies have world-class products and services to offer to help meet Hong Kong’s growing demand,” Sánchez said. “I’m honored to bring this delegation to Hong Kong to meet with potential partners and explore opportunities to sell their high quality goods and services in this important cutting-edge sector.”
Hong Kong has more than 200 pharmaceutical companies. Its excellent research facilities and business infrastructure, regulatory linkages into the mainland, and strong venture capital community make it a promising market for U.S. firms. Hong Kong is also a leading center for bio-medical clinical trials in Asia.
Trade mission delegates will be introduced to distributors, public and private buying agents and other potential business partners during the Hong Kong visit. Additionally, one-on-one meetings will be arranged with potential agents, distributors, and partners, enabling U.S. companies to position themselves to enter or expand their presence in the region.
On Tuesday, Under Secretary Sánchez will deliver keynote remarks to an American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong luncheon, and present the Peace through Commerce Award to Fred Lam, executive director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
This trade mission advances President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting economic and job growth.
