Senior Trade Official Recognized For Outstanding leadership and Management in Public Service
WASHINGTON – Michelle O’Neill, Deputy Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade (ITA), was inducted today as a Fellow at the National Academy for Public Administration (NAPA). Ms. O’Neill was recognized for her outstanding leadership and management in public service.
“I am delighted to see that NAPA has recognized Michelle for her exemplary public service,” said Francisco Sánchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade. “Throughout her tenure at ITA, she has worked tirelessly to improve the service ITA provides to U.S. companies. Her level of expertise, commitment to public service as well as to the Department of Commerce as a whole is an invaluable asset. I congratulate Michelle on receiving this well deserved honor.”
Michelle O'Neill serves as Deputy Under Secretary for International Trade. In this capacity, she oversees the daily operations of ITA, and manages more than 2,400 employees worldwide. She works with the Under Secretary for International Trade to lead ITA, which participates in the development of U.S. trade policy; identifies and resolves market access and compliance issues; promotes American competitiveness and the strength of U.S. companies in the global economy; administers U.S. trade laws; and undertakes a range of trade promotion and trade advocacy efforts.
“This is a very big honor for me,” said O’Neill. “I look forward to being a part of NAPA’s efforts of improving public administration.”
The National Academy of Public Administration was created to help public sector leaders meet the important and varied management challenges of today and anticipate those of the future. O’Neill joined ITA in 1987 and has held a variety of positions with growing responsibility. She became the Deputy Under Secretary in 2005.
