Francisco SÁnchez Statement on Revised WTO Government Procurement Agreement
WASHINGTON – Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Francisco Sánchez released the following statement after the revision of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Government Procurement Agreement (GPA) at the 8th Ministerial Conference of the WTO, held in Geneva, that will provide new opportunities for U.S. suppliers of goods and services to secure government procurement contracts in numerous additional markets in WTO Member economies:
“I am very pleased that negotiations to expand market access opportunities and modernize the text of the World Trade Organization’s Agreement on Government Procurement have been completed. The conclusion of this lengthy but critical process will bring U.S. companies expanded market access to government procurement opportunities in participating economies. It also allows the United States to focus our efforts on obtaining access to countries that are not currently members of the GPA, most notably China.”
