Commerce Under Secretary Francisco Sánchez to Lead Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Trade Mission to Turkey
WASHINGTON – Francisco Sánchez, Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade, today announced that he will lead a trade delegation to Turkey, December 5-9, to promote U.S. goods, services, and technologies in the renewable energy and energy efficiency sectors. Turkey is a critical export market for the United States, with 2010 goods exports totaling $10.5 billion. Through June 2011, U.S. merchandise exports have increased more than 58 percent from the same period in 2010.
“Turkey's rapidly expanding economy, the growing purchasing power of industry and consumers, and its effort to join the European Union have attracted the increasing attention of American exporters,” Sánchez said. “Turkey also has a receptive political climate for renewable energy and energy efficiency due to recently implemented statutes.”
This trade mission advances President Obama’s National Export Initiative which aims to double U.S. exports by the end of 2014, supporting economic recovery and job growth. In September, Sánchez will inaugurate the first meeting of the U.S.-Turkey Business Council in Istanbul. The Business Council encourages private sector dialogue between American and Turkish firms to develop recommendations for increased bilateral trade and investment.
Throughout the mission, the U.S. delegation will have an opportunity to promote equipment, services, and technologies in the solar power, wind energy, hydroelectric power, energy efficiency, and geothermal power sectors with foreign businesses, buyers, and governments.
The mission will provide U.S. participants with first-hand market information and access to government decision makers. U.S. companies will be introduced to distributors, public and private buying agents and other potential business partners. Additionally, one-on-one meetings will be arranged with potential agents, distributors, and partners, enabling U.S. companies to position themselves to enter or expand their presence in Turkey.
Trade missions are one way that ITA improves the global business environment and helps U.S. companies and workers compete at home and abroad. For additional information on this mission, please visit http://export.gov/california/kern/trademissions/eg_us_ca_029994.asp.
