Brazil Offers Opportunities for U.S. Green Building and Energy Exporters
São Paulo, Brazil – Strengthening the commercial partnerships between Brazil and American firms in the green building and energy sectors and advance the objectives of the U.S.-Brazil Strategic Energy Dialogue is the focus of Assistant Secretary for Manufacturing and Services Nicole Y. Lamb-Hale’s trip this week to São Paulo, Brasilia, and Rio de Janeiro. Lamb-Hale will meet with 14 companies participating in the Brazil-U.S. Business Council-organized Certified Trade Mission. In addition, she will participate in government meetings.
“I am excited to be here with all the participating companies as they are primed to take advantage of the incredible opportunities in the Brazilian market, especially the green building opportunities,” said Lamb-Hale. “At the International Trade Administration, we continue to work to facilitate greater exports to Brazil, a priority market under the National Export Initiative.”
The trade mission is organized under ITA’s Market Development Cooperator Program. The “Export Green: Growing SME Exports to Brazil” program will promote U.S. exports of green products to Brazil. The program was launched last November between the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber Foundation, and is executed by the U.S. Chamber’s Brazil-U.S. Business Council and TradeRoots.
The Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) partnerships include financial and technical assistance from the International Trade Administration to support projects that enhance the global competitiveness of U.S. industries. An MDCP award establishes a partnership between ITA and non-profit industry groups such as trade associations and chambers of commerce. On average, for every $1,000 invested in Market Development Cooperator Program partnerships, $125,000 in exports is generated.
Lamb-Hale will deliver keynote remarks at the Rio Green Building Conference highlighting the achievements of the U.S. green building sector. She will also participate in the Green Building Conference in São Paulo and speak at Windpower Brazil 2011.
U.S. goods exports to Brazil in 2010 were $35.4 billion, up 36 percent from 2009. In 2010, Brazil was the eighth largest export market for U.S. goods.
