Supporting Teacher Quality
A great teacher is crucial to a student's success and Iowa is lucky to have some of the best educators in the country. Senator Harkin believes it is important that we continue to invest in the quality of our educators to ensure our schools are strong and competitive. With that in mind, Senator Harkin has:
- Secured $10 billion in the summer of 2010 for an education jobs bill that kept thousands of teachers in the classroom as the economic downturn roiled state budgets.
- Supported and helped fund the Iowa Department of Education's Teacher Quality Partnership Project for the purpose of raising student achievement by improving instruction in schools.
- Focused on improving achievement in rural schools with the Small Rural Schools Achievement Program.
