Preventing Further Economic Decline
In December 2010, Senator Harkin spoke out forcefully against a pending tax bill that offered tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. Harkin argued for stand-alone passage of critical unemployment benefits and reasoned the cuts would cause further income inequality, would add to the already large deficit and would crowd out necessary investments in priorities such as education, infrastructure, homeland security, health care and scientific research.
