JPSS Gap Timeline Overview

How Ideas will be Evaluated

Ideas will be evaluated for potential to mitigate the degradation of NOAA weather services in the event of a polar-orbiting satellite data gap. Ideas will be screened by technical experts to identify those of high potential, which will be investigated further by NOAA.

Identification of the high-potential ideas is a two-step process: (1) an initial assessment to identify those ideas that merit further study; and (2) a detailed analysis of the high-merit ideas. The initial merit assessment will include evaluation of technical, operational, and programmatic merit and associated risk. The detailed analysis of high-merit ideas will explore several factors, leading to identification of high-potential ideas for further NOAA investigation. The Detailed Analysis table below lists the assessment factors and, through a series of questions, defines the framework for the analysis.
