Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs)
Listed below are OGE's Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs). Under Section 208 of the E-Government Act of 2002, all Federal government agencies are required to conduct PIAs for new or substantially changed technology that collects, maintains, or disseminates personally identifiable information. A PIA is an analysis of how personally identifiable information such as an individual's name, date of birth, mailing address, telephone number, social security number, email address is collected, stored, protected, shared and managed.
The purpose of the PIA is to demonstrate that OGE has incorporated privacy protections throughout the entire life cycle of a system. This involves making certain that privacy protections are built into the system from the start, not after the fact when they can be far more costly or could affect the viability of the project.
