We have answered the call to defend America in every war. From the war of Independence to Desert Storm, the citizen-soldiers of the Army National Guard have served with honor.

The WV Army National Guard plays a key role, in the defense of our country and interests around the world. Together with active military forces, the WV Army Guard is supporting activities as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, Homeland Security, and supporting peace keeping missions in Kosovo.

For over 365 years the citizen soldiers of the Army National Guard have come to the aid of their neighbors during times of need. The Guard plays a key role during floods, fires and other natural disaster imaginable. The National Guard State mission involves helping communities during natural disasters and civil emergencies.

Where Will I Serve?
The WV Army National Guard has 38 units and activities stationed in 22 counties throughout West Virginia. Guard members may also be called upon to support their nation's efforts at home and overseas. WV Army National Guard currently has units supporting operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kosovo.

How Long Will I Serve?
Initially, soldiers can serve for as little as three years, with longer periods available as well. Some benefits are based upon the length of your initial enlistment. Contact your local recruiter to learn more about your enlistment options.
