Language Arts Reading Specialist: Students experiencing difficulty in learning to read may receive services from the language arts reading specialist (LARS). This specialist provides students reading below grade level in reading with small group instruction in basic reading skills. Such instruction is coordinated with classroom teachers. The LARS manages the language arts, school-wide reading program to insure that the language arts reading standards are met for each child. The main focus of the LARS is to promote reading and writing in the school.

READ 180: This remedial reading program, based on several years of research, has been implemented to meet the needs of struggling readers in grades 4-12. READ 180 consists of five critical components designed to meet the individual needs of each student and are taught in a 90-minute block of time. During the class, students receive both large and small group instruction, individualized computer instruction, modeled reading and independent reading.
