Basic Military Training (BMT) is hosted on Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) in San Antonio, TX. Since this is the only enlisted basic training base in the Air Force, all new recruits attend training on Lackland AFB. Basic trainees are assigned to one of seven different squadrons listed below. Two additional support squadrons also ensure the training, education, and development of these new recruits is world-class. Please refer the sections listed below for additional specific squadron information.
Basic Military Training Squadrons
Training 35,000 new recruits each year is an enormous task. Nine squadrons accomplish this mission. Seven of these are training squadrons that train Regular, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve recruits in the fundamentals of being an airman. This includes military discipline, drill and ceremonies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and a comprehensive range of subjects relating to Air Force life.
Two squadrons support the basic training mission by providing personnel records management, job classification and discharge actions, resource management support, academic instruction and field training.
