The overall aim of these two exercises
involving Maritime and Land Component Commands is to prepare NATO Forces
for the real thing, whether it is a humanitarian relief operation,
providing a security or assistance force to stabilise a situation, or a
crisis response operation requiring the full spectrum of military force.
The two exercises will take place using the same political framework and
a fictitious scenario has been developed to suit both sets of exercise
objectives.

Move 2009
Exercise BOLD MOVE 2009 is a
biennial Naval Mine Warfare Computer Assisted Exercise (CAX), designed
to train the participants from NATO and national commands, including
Partnership for Peace (PfP) nations, in a range of Naval Operations
mainly focused on the NATO Response Force (NRF) concept. The overall
aim is to exercise Naval Mine Warfare (NMW) tactics and procedures, the
Allied Worldwide Navigational Information System (AWNIS) and Naval
Cooperation and Guidance for Shipping (NCAGS) procedures, in order to
enhance participants’ ability to conduct littoral and amphibious
operations.
Cooperative Marlin 2009
Exercise COOPERATIVE MARLIN 2009 (COMN 09) is the annual maritime
Command Post Exercises (CPX) focused on the NATO Response Force (NRF)
concept. COMN 09 is complementary to exercise COOPERATIVE MAKO 09
(COMO
09) exercise which is planned and conducted by Joint Force Command
Naples,Italy.
COMN 09 and
COMO 09
will be conducted in
the
Republic
of Turkey
as sequential events:
CPX (COMN 09), followed by a
Live Exercise (LIVEX)
(COMO).
The aim of the exercise is to provide familiarisation with NATO
organisation, Command and Control (C2) structures and clear
understanding of NATO doctrine and to enhance the mutual
interoperability between NATO and Partnership for Peace (PfP)
/Mediterranean Dialogue Countries (MD) and
Istanbul Cooperation Initiative (ICI) nations, focusing on the NATO led
operations with partners.
