Fort Hood's EMS

Fort Hood maintains an Environmental Management System (EMS) to help us proactively deal with environmental laws, regulations and issues while enhancing the ability to accomplish our mission.

The EMS begins with our environmental policy and our commitment to prevent pollution. Fort Hood has designated a Management Representative and an EMS Coordinator to oversee and facilitate the EMS. The program follows the ISO 14001 standard, which includes among other elements, training and awareness, evaluation of compliance, and management review. The Environmental Quality Control Committee meets quarterly to ensure the continuing suitability, adequacy, and effectiveness of our EMS. The EQCC is co-chaired by the III Corps Chief of Staff and Garrison Commander and its members are comprised of directorates and organizations from across the installation.

Currently, we are in the process of re-evaluating our environmental aspects and their potential impacts on the environment. Once this is complete, we will create a Cross Functional Team to set objectives and targets to make progress on our environmental aspects and priorities.

To focus our efforts we have developed the following Mission and Vision statements for our EMS.
“Preserving natural resources increases our ability to train Soldiers, therefore environmental management and sustainability are part of Fort Hood’s mission.”

Fort Hood’s EMS policy has been signed by Major General William F. Grimsley, the Fort Hood Commanding General. From this policy we have created an acronym and logo that communicates our policy to all individuals on the installation and makes the policy easy to remember. Our Environmental Management System will help us make this goal a reality.
