Margaret M. (Peg) Brady

Acting Deputy Goal Team Lead

As the acting Deputy Goal Team Lead, Peg ensures that the Ecosystem Goal Team (EGT) is sponsoring programs that advance NOAA's ecosystem mission and vision. She oversees NOAA's Planning, Programming, Budgeting and Execution System (PPBES) process for the $1.5 billion portfolio of EGT Programs. She supervises all activities of the Goal Team office. The Deputy and EGT team coordinate all Goal-level interactions throughout NOAA's Planning, Programming, and Budgeting cycles, including setting annual planning themes, coordinating and negotiating with nine Programs, prioritizing budget alternatives, producing the Goal's Strategic Portfolio Analysis and final Program Plan, and working with NOAA budget offices to formulate budgets. Peg oversees EGT-sponsored workshops and meetings to advance specific ecosystem-based management topics, as well as the EGT website.

Peg joined NOAA in 2003 as the Habitat Matrix Coordinator facilitating the PPBES process for the program. In 2006 she was selected as candidate in NOAA's Leadership Competencies Development Program (LCDP). As an LCDP candidate she served in assignments at the NW Fisheries Science Center, serving as a liaison to the Puget Sound Partnership and the regional federal caucus; and, the White House's Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) as the coordinator to the U.S. Interagency Committee on Ocean Science and Resource Management Integration. In 2008 Peg became NOAA's senior policy liaison to the National Invasive Species Council and Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force and continues in that role while the serving as the acting EGT Deputy.

Prior to joining NOAA served as the Assistant Secretary within the Massachusetts Executive Office of Environmental Affairs and Director of the Commonwealth's Coastal Zone Management office. While Assistant Secretary she served as the Governor's delegate to the Coastal States Organization and the Gulf of Maine Council on the Marine Environment. Peg served on a number of national committees and co-authored publications including "Bridging Boundaries through Regional Marine Research" by the Committee to Assess Regional Marine Research Programs, National Research Council. Prior to her positions with Massachusetts state agencies, she worked as a conservation director for the Massachusetts Audubon Society and Save The Bay, R.I. Peg served as a marine research scientist and instructor at the Marine Research Science Center, Stony Brook, NY; University of Rhode Island; Cornell University's Shoals Marine Laboratory; and Sea Education Association, Woods Hole, MA.

Peg holds Masters of Science from the University of Rhode Island and has attended M.I.T.'s Environmental Policy Group and Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government Senior Management Program.
