Fulbright Alumnus Nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award

Jory Vinikou Fulbright U.S. Student Program Alumnus, Jory Vinikour, has been nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award. Vinikour was a Fulbright U.S. Student to France in 1990, where he studied harpsichord at the Paris Conservatory, an opportunity that he deemed significant in the growth of his music career.

“My studies in Paris were very important to me,” said Vinikour. “I had the guidance of two of the great pedagogues of the harpsichord, Huguette Dreyfus and Kenneth Gilbert. Both of these professors played a fundamental role in my musical development, and I am proud to say that I remain close to them today.

Vinikour was nominated for the Grammy Award in the Best Classical Instrumental Solo category for his album The Complete Harpsichord Works of Rameau.

“I was deeply pleased to be able to record the complete works of Rameau,” said Vinikour. “For any harpsichordist, or any lover of Baroque music, Rameau is a pinnacle to be attained. Receiving a Grammy nomination is a thrill, and I do truly feel honored.”

“I will always be grateful to Fulbright for supporting me in my education. This is also an honor that I carry proudly with me through my lifetime.”

Many outstanding musicians and other artists have received Fulbright scholarships since the Program’s inception. The winners of the 2013 Grammy Awards will be announced on February 10.
