U.S. Rep. John Mica and Florida Rep. Fred Costello to Receive Special Recognition by the Volusia League of Cities

Deltona, FL—Rep. John Mica (FL-07)on Thursday, May 24th, will be honored by the Volusia League of Cities and be presented with the 2012 President’s Award for his work at the federal level in support of the community.

Through his public service and locally, the Congressman has supported business development and is a leading voice for the improvement of Florida’s infrastructure.  He has fought for the development of our airports, highways and other infrastructure necessary to bring business and economic opportunity to Florida and our nation.  Mica has also fought the implementation of new EPA numeric nutrient rules, adjusted after the State of Florida and EPA had come to agreement on standards, which would mean higher costs to residents and localities.

Rep. Micacurrently Chairs the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, one of the largest committees in Congress.  As Chairman, Mica is directly involved in setting federal policy on aviation, highways, transit, rail, pipelines, coast guard, maritime transportation, water resources, economic development, public buildings and emergency management issues.

Florida House of Representatives Member Fred Costellowill also be presented with the President’s Award by the Volusia League of Cities for his efforts to assist local government and the community during the recent Legislative session.  Rep. Costello currently serves on the Community & Military Affairs Subcommittee; the Federal Affairs Subcommittee; the Finance & Tax Subcommittee; and the Government Operations Appropriations Subcommittee.  Costello was elected to the Florida House in 2010 after serving as Mayor of Ormond Beach.

The presentation of the 2012 Volusia League of Cities Distinguished Service awards will take place at their Annual Banquet at the Smyrna Yacht Club in New Smyrna Beach.
