U.S. DOT Awards $6.2 Million Grant to Northeast Florida Airport

Washington, DC – Congressman John L. Mica (R-St. Augustine) today announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has awarded the Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine a $ 6.19 million grant for the airport’s Taxiway B project.
“Projects like this are essential to spur economic development in our local community,” says Congressman John Mica.  “Transportation improvements, like this project, will create jobs and will provide improved access to and from Northeast Florida.”
The FAA grant to improve the runway safety area covers 95 percent of the project’s cost which will bring the taxiway to federal standards.  Additionally, the project will help stop erosion from an adjacent marsh.  The project is slated to start within two to three weeks after the grant is processed.  The construction timeline is expected to last six months.
“This grant helps the Northeast Florida Regional Airport accomplish its long-term goals,” said Ed Wuellner, Executive Director of the airport.  “I would like to thank Congressman Mica for his continued support of the airport and St. Johns County.”
