Northrop Grumman Recieves Federal Contract

CONTRACT
$12.9 million to upgrade EA-6B military aircraft

WASHINGTON, DC -- U.S. Representative John L. Mica (R-St. Johns County) today announced that Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. in St. Augustine, Florida has been awarded a US Navy contract worth an estimated $12,903,905. These funds will be used to replace the Wing Center Sections (WCS) on seven EA-6B aircraft. In addition, this contract will provide funding to conduct one Planned Maintenance Interval (PMI) inspection and repair. This work is expected to be completed in November 2007.

“With our nation at war it is essential to ensure that our Navy’s aircraft are in flight condition and able to deploy throughout the world,” Mica said. “This work being done in St. Augustine is vital to meeting that goal.”

The EA-6B is used to jam enemy radar systems and helps prevent attacks against the U.S. military. Northrop Grumman’s St Augustine facility is the primary site for manufacture and maintenance of the electronic warfare aircraft, which is expected to be the mainstay of the United States’ airborne electronic attack capability for the next decade.

In the past, Rep. Mica helped secure additional federal funding to help complete other much needed repairs on the EA-6B fleet.
