 Information Operations Announcements

1. Boards

FY 12 SSC Board- convenes September 2012

2.  Fall/ Winter Assignments. We are currently working the 13-01 Manning Cycle. If you are due to PCS with a report date from Aug-Dec 2012, contact the branch manager reference your next assignment. Please make sure you have at least three to five distinct duty stations in mind when contacting me with your preference for assignment. Decisions on assignments will be finalized by end of Dec with RFOs being released by the end of May, early June. (Nominative positions may take longer to get the approval which will push back the RFO date).  Lastly, officers due to PCS based on 24-36 months time on station should also be coordinating with me for their next assignment.

3. ACS/TWI Programs. The FY 2013 Advance Civil Schooling and Training With Industry (TWI) applications are now being accepted. Suspense: 30 September 2012

4. ILE. FA30 MAJs should expect to attend ILE TDY enroute to your next assignment. FA 30 officers will normally attend one of the satellite courses. By exception, you may be scheduled for resident ILE at Fort Leavenworth, allocations are not currently known; however, an OML will be created based on professional development, officer timeline, and year group. Normally, FA 30 officers will complete at least one operational assignment in an FA 30 coded position before ILE attendance (DA Pam 600-3, ch 20-3)

5. The FA30/46 Future Readiness Officer, CPT Burkes, will work with newly assigned CPTs to develop their timeline for schooling and assist in updating records for FA30 officers.

FA 30 Assignments

We will continue to fill FA 30 positions in accordance with the current Army G-1 manning guidance. Some vacant positions will remain vacant, and we will continue to fill positions by priority, not by vacancy. Officers are assigned to positions using three criteria:

  1. Army Priority Requirements
  2. Officer Skills and Experience and Career Development
  3. Officer preference and special circumstances (e.g.. EFMP, MACP, etc..)

Deployment/ Tour Equity: The entire Army is working to ensure that persistent conflict does not take a heavy toll on its officers. I understand that no two officers are alike, each with their own skills, experience, and challenges. I make every effort to match the right officer (skills/experience/situation) with the right job (skill / experience necessary). However, priority one is non-negotiable.

FA 30 Positions Available for Fill as of Assignment Cycle 13-01 (Aug- Dec 2012) Many officers have already been programmed against a position due to deployment requirements, career progression and special considerations (EFMP, MACP, etc). Those positions are not listed here.

What's Hot

File Updates:  Your PSB is your first stop for ORB and OMPF updates. FA30 does not have a technician. If you are in the window for a selection board and having difficulty with the PBS, I can make ORB edits for you. Unit S1 shops should now have Scan Operation rights to iPERMS.  If they do not, they can contact HRC to get them.  For those that are deployed in remote locations and away from Army units, send documents to the FA30 assignment Officer for upload.  Please ensure you write your entire SSN in the upper right hand corner of all documents sent for upload.  Please do not contact the assignment officer if it's been less than three weeks and your document hasn't appeared in iPERMS.  For boards, documents are turned in immediately and typically appear within a few days.

OERs:  OERs are submitted through AKO Forms.  The Assignment Officer is prohibited from turning in OERs to the Evaluation Section that are sent, without exception. OERs must be processed through your PSB to Evaluations.

Promotions:  Officers are not provided projected promotion dates for officers in our population.  Officers may project their promotion dates by checking the HRC Promotions and Selections Website.

Retirements:  If you are contemplating retirement, I recommend you familiarizing yourself with AR 600-8-7, dated 6 Jun 2010.  You must submit your retirement 9-12 months prior to your requested retirement date or beginning date of transition leave, whichever is the earliest. You may submit for an earlier retirement if there is an emergency, hardship, coincidence with a DEROS date, when your losing command agrees, or if the request shortens processing time. Reference the Army Publication Directorate (APD) for guidance . Medical Exam - must be scheduled not earlier than 4 months prior to retirement date/transition leave date.

Special Missions Units

U.S. Army Special Mission Units (SMUs) are currently seeking volunteers from the Information Operations Career Field (FA 30) to fill several high-priority positions. FA 30 officers will complete at least one operational assignment in an FA 30 coded position before consideration. Please contact your FA 30 Assignment Officer to volunteer & for more information.
