Patrick Henry Elementary School is part of the Department of Defense Education Activity / Department of Defense Dependent Schools family. We are located in Heidelberg, Germany in the central part of Europe. Most of our students are military dependents associated with the US Army. Our school is rich in diversity in all areas - student and teacher demographics, programs and curriculum, and social/cultural interactions. Our school colors are Blue and White an our mascot is the Bobcat.

School Vision:

The vision of Patrick Henry Elementary School is to educate all children by providing a nurturing environment and standards-based curriculum dedicated to meeting the diverse needs of every child.  We will work collaboratively with families and community members to prepare and challenge our students for success in the 21st century.

Patrick Henry Elementary School (PHES) one of the largest schools in DoDDS-Europe is located in the historic city of Heidelberg, Germany. With an enrollment of approximately 1100 students, the school consists of a two story main building with an additional two-story structure and a single story wing. An attached multipurpose room and one story information centers are also found on site. Two recent additions include a newly built, ten room kindergarten building and a group of three portable buildings that were a small British school until recently. The District Office personnel are located in a separate annex building.

Programs

A variety of programs exist at PHES to meet the diverse needs of its students: Sure Start, Early Childhood Services for Children with Disabilities, Preschool Services for Children for Disabilities, Special Education Services for Children in grades K-5, Gifted Education (GE), English as a Second Language, Reading Recovery, and Reading Improvement (LARS, Comp Ed, and Read I8O). There are three counselors and a school psychologist on the staff. Medically related services (OT, PT, etc.) are provided by the ED IS Clinic from the Heidelberg Army Hospital.

Technology staff development reinforces the integration of technology into the curriculum. We have two PC based computer labs as tools for learning for staff and students. There are at least four computers in every classroom.

Professional development of faculty and staff is enhanced by university coursework, in-services and district wide staff development training. Much of the staff in-service revolves around the School Improvement Plan. PHES's faculty, staff, parents and community are committed to our mission statement of success for all students in accordance with DoDEA Community Strategic Plan guidelines.
