Sergeant Major, III Marine Expeditionary ForceSergeant Major

SgtMaj Morefield enlisted in the Marine Corps on 16 June 1982, with the primary MOS 0300. He was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Private First Class and sent to the Infantry Training School at Camp Pendleton, CA where he received the primary MOS of 0341.

After graduating Infantry Training School, PFC Morefield was sent to Guard Company Westlock, Hawaii for barracks duty where he was promoted to Lance Corporal. LCpl Morefield was transferred to the Flag Allowance for the Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet, where he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and Sergeant. After completing this tour, Sgt Morefield was approved for a lateral move and attended the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) School at Indian Head, Md. Upon his graduation he was assigned to the 3rd EOD Platoon, 3rd FSSG at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, and was later transferred to the EOD Team at Camp Fuji, Japan. In June 1987 Sgt Morefield was transferred to the EOD Team, MCB Camp Pendleton, CA. SSgt Morefield was transferred to the EOD Team at Camp Fuji, in August 1990. He served as the EOD Team Leader and the Platoon Commander for the second Platoon, HQ BN, Camp Fuji.

 During August 1991, SSgt Morefield was transferred to the EOD Team, MALS-14, MAG-14, 2nd MAW at Cherry Point, NC. SSgt Morefield was then transferred to MWSS-271, MWSG-27, 2nd MAW. where he was promoted to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and served as the Operations and Training Chief for the Combined EOD Teams and one of two NCOIC’s of the MWSS-271 EOD Team.

In January 1994, GySgt Morefield attended Recruiters School in San Diego, CA where he graduated on the directors honor roll. GySgt Morefield then served as a canvassing recruiter at RSS Lake City, FL, and as an Officer Selection Assistant in Tallahassee, Fl.

Upon promotion to 1stSgt in July 1997, 1stSgt Morefield was transferred to the Inspector Instructor Staff, 4th LAAM Battalion, Fresno, Ca. Due to redesignations he was then assigned to the Theater Missile Defense Detachment and MWSS-473 Detachment A.

1stSgt Morefield was transferred to 1st Battalion 8th Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Camp LeJeune, NC in June 2000 where he served as the 1stSgt for Weapons Company, and later as the H&S Company 1stSgt.

Upon selection to his present rank, SgtMaj Morefield was transferred to HMM-365, MAG 29, 2nd MAW in New River, NC. SgtMaj Morefield deployed with HMM-365 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In Jan 2004 SgtMaj Morefield was transferred to Marine Aviation Training Support Group 23 where he served as the Group Sergeant Major. In May 2006 Sergeant Major Morefield assumed the duties as the Combat Service Support Group 3, Group Sergeant Major. On 30 March 2007, he was transferred to 3d Marine Regiment and assumed the duties as the Regimental Sergeant Major until December of 2008. In January 2009 SgtMaj Morefield assumed the duties as the Sergeant Major for Manpower Management Division, Manpower & Reserve Affairs, Headquarters U.S. Marine Corps. On 2 June 2011, he became the Sergeant Major of III Marine Expeditionary Force.

SgtMaj Morefield's personal awards are the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, Air Medal with 2 strike/flight awards, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars.

SgtMaj Morefield graduated Magna Cum Laude from Excelsior College in May 2011 with a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts.
