What Does a Counselor Do?
School counselors are actively committed to helping students explore their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents.
- We help children explore their career awareness and work with them at their developmental level.
- We help parents focus on ways to further the education15 August, 2012
- We work with teachers and other educators to help students explore their potential and set realistic goals for themselves.
- We seek to identify and utilize community resources that can enhance and complement comprehensive school counseling programs and help students become productive members of society.

From the Counselor's Corner
As we begin our new school year, this week’s lesson will focus on community building and recognizing our feelings. We will read the wonderful book, How Are You Peeling, Foods with Moods.
This whimsical book helps children identify their emotions, both positive and negative. The children also love how a fruit or vegetable can have a playful personality. We will then create a
“Happy Days Bag,” which the class can use during the year for a reward on a good day or for an idea to turn around a bad day. This basic lesson will be adapted to each grade level with the basic
theme of identifying emotions and classroom team building. Parents may want to create their own Happy Days Bag at home. Students will brainstorm ways to make their day happier and put ideas on
colorful strips of paper. Examples could include remembering the lyrics to a favorite song, studying a cloud, reading a funny book, hugging a favorite stuffed animal etc. As always, I look
