Do You Qualify? There are many ways that a Veteran may qualify to receive top-notch VA health care at over 1,400 medical centers and clinics across the nation. The VA has highly trained physicians and clinicians that allow the VA to address many specialties. You may also be able to receive assistance with prescription medication. VA health care is portable. Once enrolled, you may receive care at your home facility as well as the nearest VA facility while traveling. If you are a Veteran, and you want low-cost, high-quality health care, please take a moment to see if you qualify.
All Veterans are encouraged to enroll in the VA San Diego Healthcare System. To enroll, please complete the Application for Health Care Benefits. Print and complete the form and bring the form to our Health Benefits & Enrollment Office, located on the first floor of the medical center near the main lobby. When you come to enroll, please bring the following items:
- a copy of your DD214, "Armed Forces Report of Transfer or Discharge"
- a copy of both sides of your current insurance card (including Medicare or Medicaid)
- Purple Heart recipients only: a copy of your award letter if "Purple Heart" is not noted on your DD214
You can complete your enrollment at the medical center in La Jolla or at our clinics at Mission Valley, Oceanside, or Chula Vista. The Health Benefits & Enrollment Office at the medical center in La Jolla is open from 7:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m.
