Internship Program
The predoctoral internship at the VA Long Beach Healthcare System is fully accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association. The next site visit will be during the academic year 2012.
According to VA policy, internship funding can be provided only to students who are U.S. citizens and are enrolled in APA-accredited doctoral programs in clinical or counseling psychology. In addition, we require that a prospective intern's university advisor or director of training verify that he or she approves and recommends that the student receive an internship at this facility as specified on the APPIC "Academic Program's Verification of Internship Eligibility and Readiness" form. Only 52-week full-time internships are available.

Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
We are seeking applicants who have a strong interest in treating veterans suffering from trauma, either combat related PTSD or other types of interpersonal trauma or re-traumatization that we often see in our Women's Mental Health Clinic. Other strong candidates would have an abiding interest in adopting the rehab and recovery model for the seriously mentally ill. In all candidates we look for solid skills in clinical assessment and intervention, as well as specific research and training interests in their chosen specialty area. Successful candidates have personal qualities that facilitate functioning well on interprofessional treatment teams and interacting throughout a thriving medical center environment. Also, we look for candidates who demonstrate the background training and experience and espouse training and professional goals that are consistent with the VA mission.
