Sculptures for Democracy and Freedom
May 6, 2009
Public Affairs Officer Jeanine Collins represented the U.S. Consulate at the opening of a unique arts project at the former inner German border and the opening of the exhibition “Freiheiten!“ at memorial site Point Alpha. The sculpture way „Wege der Hoffnung“ with sculptures by artist Ulrich Barnickel enables the viewers to gain their own interpretation of life under the communist dictatorships. With media citations, objects, photographs and documents, the exhibition „Freiheiten!“ shows the restrictions on individual and societal freedoms during the SED dictatorship. Among the guests of the opening were the president of the German Bundestag Norbert Lammert, Minister President Dieter Althaus, and Hessen Interior Minister Volker Bouffier.
