ARMY PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING works to prevent or mitigate illness and injury in the JRTC/Fort Polk community by providing high-quality, professional community health services.

Programs & Services

Child Development Services - Support to Child, Youth & School Services and Family Child Care homes is provided in accordance with AR 608-10. APHN staff provides consultation and education regarding health issues, safety, medication administration, communicable disease and first aid.

Tuberculosis Surveillance - The Tuberculosis (TB) Surveillance Registry established IAW AR 40-68 monitors TB infection and disease. The Army Public Health Nurse ensures timely contact for initial evaluation, provides effective education and counseling for patients, ensures appropriate completion of preventive treatment and reviews epidemiological aspects of active cases to confirm therapy protocols are followed.

HIV/STD Program - This clinic is available to all active duty soldiers, retirees, and their dependents. Clinic hours are Monday thru Friday from 0800 - 0930 at building 3504 on Georgia Ave (Red Roof Inn). Patients are seen on a walk-in basis (no appointments needed). This clinic provides STD screenings , treatment , counseling, contact interview, and follow –up. A Community Health Technician, is available at building 3504 from 0930 - 1530 for appointments and/or follow-ups. Telephone number: 531-0261.

Annual HIV/STD classes are also provided to units IAW AR 600-110. This is done per unit requests. POC for these classes may be reached by calling 531-0261. The HIV POC responds to positive HIV test results among BJACH beneficiaries by performing education, counseling and follow-up service support.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Physical Training - Army Public Health Nursing is the advisor for Fort Polk/JRTC fitness program for active duty pregnant soldiers. Weekly classes are held in accordance with AR 40-501, Standards of Medical Fitness. Registration is available daily at Building 920 Army Community Service (ACS). NCOIC telephone number: 531-4926
