Tips on Making Presentations

Face-to-face communication is one of the most powerful ways to share information about the child support system and the benefits and services available to the Hispanic community. Here are some tips to help you make confident and engaging presentations.

Setting Presentation Objectives
Many of us ignore this step and jump immediately into “What am I going to say?” But a clear idea of specifically what you want your presentation to accomplish will help you communicate much more clearly.

The Audience
There’s one critical thing to remember about the audience…It’s all about them! They’re the ones you’re doing this for and they’ll determine, by their response, whether or not you’ve been successful.

Communicating with Clarity
No matter the size of your audience, communicating with painstaking clarity will help the audience to understand your message.

PowerPoint Tips
Research done with audiences shows that the two most annoying aspects of a PowerPoint presentation are: a presenter reading the slides and slides being too crowded. Here are some tips to ensure that your PowerPoint presentation doesn’t alienate your audience.

Questioning Techniques
There are two sides to questioning: asking them and answering them. Both have a valuable role to play in a successful presentation.

Presenter’s Toolkit
Just like any skilled professional, a presenter has a variety of tools that can be used to engage the audience and enhance the message.

Rehearsal
Rehearsal is the part we just never have time for. But what professional…film star, musician, soccer player…would perform without practicing and polishing before standing in front of an audience?
