The federal government authorizes direct grants to Indian tribes and tribal organizations to operate child support programs consistent with tribal laws and traditions. Tribal child support programs provide holistic services to children and families by forming partnerships with other programs, such as child welfare, workforce, and fatherhood. These cross-program partnerships and culturally appropriate services help increase reliable child support payments through expanded work opportunities and stronger family relationships. Start-up funding is available to support the building of basic governmental and administrative capabilities necessary to run a comprehensive child support program.
