Service Academy Nominations

THE NOMINATION PROCESS

Every year, hundreds of Texas' best and brightest young men and women write my office to apply for an appointment to a service academy.

To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must meet the eligibility requirements established by law and be nominated by a member of the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate. You must live within the legal boundaries of the 11th Congressional District to apply for a nomination from my office.

Four U.S. service academies require congressional nominations: the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination; please do not request a nomination to this academy.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements and submit an application before October 23, 2013 for the class of 2018 (freshmen entering in 2014):
  • Must be a United States citizen;
  • Must be at least 17 years old but not yet 23 years old on by July 1, 2013;
  • Must be unmarried;
  • Must not be pregnant or have a legal obligation to support children or other dependents.

District 11 students requesting a nomination should mail a completed academy nomination application to Joanne Powell in my San Angelo district office by October 23, 2013:

Congressman K. Michael Conaway
33 Twohig, Suite 307
San Angelo, TX 76903
