Today’s General Aviation pilot has the capability and desire to often fly to new – to them - and interesting destinations. Often these new destinations carry with them challenges and demands for skills not necessarily acquired in normal training. Destin, Florida, is a very attractive destination and has a very convenient airport literally within walking distance of beautiful beaches and deep-sea fishing facilities (Figure 1).

Destin is also located within and near unusual and complex airspace. While using this airspace is quite straightforward, the unknowledgeable pilot can easily be overtaken by events and – at the least – be embarrassed, or – at worst – become involved in a serious safety event. Therefore, this course is intended to make the first-time visitor as comfortable with the Destin/Eglin AFB Part 93 airspace as the pilot who is using this airspace on a regular basis.

HOWEVER, THIS COURSE IS NOT INTENDED TO, NOR IS IT CAPABLE OF, CONVEYING INFORMATION OF A TRANSITORY NATURE. NEITHER CAN IT REFLECT "LATE BREAKING" INFORMATION CRITICAL TO FLIGHT SAFETY. TO FULFILL THE REQUIREMENTS OF FAR 91.103, PILOTS MUST BECOME FAMILIAR WITH ALL AVAILABLE INFORMATION PERTINENT TO THAT FLIGHT INCLUDING CURRENT CHARTS AND NOTAMS.

The course assumes a good basic understanding of aircraft operations, air navigation, and air traffic control procedures.
