OGC Example On-line Planetary WMS Maps
for WMS GIS client applications - use:
- JPL onMars, onMoon
- "http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/wms.cgi?"
- USGS/PDS Map-a-Planet
- "http://www.mapaplanet.com/explorer-bin/imageMaker.cgi?map=Moon&"
- more: Venus, Callisto, Europa, Ganymede, Io, Rhea, Dione, Tethys, Iapetus, Enceladus
WorldKit Interface Examples:
- USGS's MDIM2.1: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/WK/ (looks best after zooming in)
- ASU's THEMIS IR Mosiac: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/WK/them/ (test for large screens, the whole planetary is there but you may have to zoomin to pan to all of it).
- MSSS MOC NA mosaic: No background for this interface (yet): http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/WK/moc_na
Instructions: This is a very simple browser interface for testing. Click in the image to Pan. To zoom in and out use the top red "zoom" bar. Just click on the left to zoom in and the right to zoom out.
Simple WMS web browser interface showing MSSS MC NA Mosaic:
- with USGS's MDIM2.1 : http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=mars,moc_na
- or with ASU's THEMIS mosaic
http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?layers=themis,moc_na&zoom=
Simple WMS web browser interface showing hillshade effect:
- ASU's THEMIS IR Mosiac: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=themis&styles=
- With hillshading: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=themis&styles=compass
- MDIM21: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&styles=
- With real-time hillshading:
http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&styles=compass
- MOLA greyscale: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=mola
- JPL-like color ramp: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=mola&styles=polycolor&sld=mars_mola.sld
- histogram equalize stretch recalculated per zoom level - colors are a reverse spectrum ramp: http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=mola&styles=he_c
- hillshaded (spectrum ramp going up to black and white): http://onmars.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=mola&styles=color
Google Earth Mars Links
Google Earth can be used to view this data. The following KML files should work on Windows and Linux machines using version 4 of Google Earth. The terrain and other earth specific layers should be turned off first.
- OnMars_MDIM.kml USGS MDIM, a 1 Km per pixel grayscale image
- OnMars_CMDIM.kml A colorized version of MDIM
- OnMars_THEMIS.kml Mars Odyssey Mission THEMIS mosaic
- OnMars_MOCNA.kml A 5m sparse composite of Mars Global Surveyor MOC Narrow Angle images
- OnMars_MDIM_MOCNA.kml A combined view of the MOCNA composite on the MDIM background
- OnMars_MOLA.kml Mars Elevation (MOLA), grayscale
- OnMars_CMOLA.kml Mars Colorized Elevation (MOLA), grayscale
Moon
- USGS's Clementine UVVIS 750nm: http://onmoon.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=Clementine
- USGS's Clementine UVVIS multi-spectral http://onmoon.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?layers=clem_uvvis&width=720&height=360&zoom=
- Band mixing example on the JPL server. see discussion.
- USGS's Color Hillshade: http://onmoon.jpl.nasa.gov/browse.cgi?zoom=&layers=mcsa
