Dynamic Mobility Application

Track 2 – Mobility Applications Research and Development

Sub-Track 2A:  Technical. This sub-track addresses the development of mobility applications.  In Phase 1, work activities in this subtrack will create an open source applications environment.  A prototype application developed within the open source environment will be created to serve as an example for applications developed in the program.  At the same time as the prototype application is under development, a set of application development guidelines will be produced.  Another work activity in this subtrack deals with maintaining a portfolio of documented applications.  Some of these applications may be tested within the program as a part of Track 3 POC testing or Track 4 Pilot deployments.  Others may be continued to be developed as a part of other connected vehicle programs, other ITS programs, or in efforts outside of JPO funding.  The application development environment will be maintained throughout the program to support applications development, testing, refinement and deployment.

Sub-Track 2B:  Institutional and Policy. In Phase 1, the goal of this sub track is to examine the suitability of existing Institutional and Policy requirements and regulations in facilitating the development of open source mobility applications. In Phase 2, activity in this sub-track will assess policy guidelines and to consider the role of requirements and/or regulation in support of encouraging collaborative mobility application development, wide mobility application deployment, and speed mobility application commercialization. In Phase 3, the goal of this sub track is to conduct rulemaking activities and to carry out guideline development efforts accelerating commercialization and deployment of mobility applications.  All work areas in this sub-track are joint activities funded by the Data Capture and Management program, although liaisons from the Dynamic Mobility Applications program are identified here. Additional resources to fund guideline or regulation pertinent to specific applications will be identified as a part of the Applications Development activity, contingent on needs identified in the Institutional and Policy subtrack (2B).

Sub-Track 2C:  Standards. In Phase 1, the goal of this sub track is to examine if existing Standards can be utilized to logically support mobility applications development. In Phase 2, the goal of this sub track is to identify standards development needs and to coordinate a standards plan with the ITS JPO Standards program. In Phase 3, the goal of this sub track is to coordinate any standard development or enhancement efforts in with the ITS JPO Standards program. All work activities in this sub-track are joint activities funded by the Data Capture and Management program, although liaisons from the Dynamic Mobility Applications program are identified.  Resources to fund standards enhancement or development for specific applications will be identified as a part of the Applications Development activity, contingent on needs identified in the Standards sub track (2C).
